The decision to sell our toll roads would mean deciding to let them fall to pieces. It’s dangerous for motorists. I also fear that in doing so, decisions which must be made in the name of public safety will fall into the hands of corporate boards…NOT a wise idea.

There shouldn’t even be a “proposal”. What is there to propose? There is no reason in the world to sell our roads off. Did anyone see what happened to the Beesley’s Point Bridge, or to our North Jersey counterparts that may not be familiar, what happened to Route 9? Yeah. It was privatized a long time ago, it has fallen into decay, was not maintained, and now is so decrepid and unsteady that Route 9 is CLOSED. Yes. Closed. Can we trust big businesses to maintain the Parkway? The Turnpike? The Expressway? Are they going to have engineers design the roads so the rain slides off instead of pooling? Are the grasses on the side going to be mowed or left to nature? Are swaths of forest going to be cut down along the parkway so big billboards advertising insurance companies and jewelry can be sprung up? Selling our roads is a BIG mistake. Foolish, rather. A quick way to make a buck. The state would be losing out on all the tolls if they sold them. Stop proposing, Mr. Corzine, and tend to the pressing issues our state has instead of creating debates and arguments by suggesting stupid ideas.
